Embedded Software Engineer

Job Summary:

The Embedded Software Engineer will design, develop, test, and maintain embedded software as a component of marine monitoring and control systems. This person will work as part of a team to provide the bridge between the user interface and the peripherals and communication networks of these systems.

Essential Job Function:

•Architect, build, document, and deliver embedded software based on high-level product requirements
•Develop embedded software to meet cost, timing, and performance targets and review, approve, or modify production software designs
•Adhere to software engineering processes to support efficient and effective high-quality embedded software
•Develop and execute test plans to ensure embedded software meets functional, reliability, and performance specifications
•Collaborate with customers and other disciplines in requirements capturing
•Provide high-level technical support to field application engineers

Recommended Education / Experience:

•B.S. in Electrical, Electronics, or Software Engineering (M.S. Preferred)
•5+ years of experience in design and development of automotive quality embedded controller software
•Proficient in automotive standards and processes (CMMI / V-Model / ASPICE / ISO26262)
•3+ years of experience in creating “Driver Level” software in C/C++ including interacting with microprocessor registers, interrupt service routines, boot loader development, and working with communication systems (SPI/CAN/LIN/etc.)
•Experience with Linux operating system and/or Embedded RTOS
•Experience with CAN communication protocols (J1939, NMEA 2000 preferred)
•Experience with MODBUS communication protocol
•Basic understanding of PCB schematics
•Experience with hands-on development and laboratory equipment (ICE, function generators, logic analyzers, oscilloscopes)
•Willingness to travel domestically and internationally as required (5-10%)
•History of adhering to best design practices
•Experience in taking embedded software designs from concept through production
•Experience developing with code versioning tools, such as Git or SVN
•Strong analytical, assessment, and problem-solving skills
•Ability to work, communicate, and maintain positive working relationships in a small team environment
•Excellent English communication skills, written and verbal
